Course description:

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent as a qualified cook in an Asian kitchen. It aims to develop practical work skills while giving a specific overview of Asian cookery methods and preparation of food. You will also learn interpersonal skills essential for a successful career in the hospitality industry. Work is undertaken in various hospitality enterprises where Asian food is prepared and served, including restaurants, hotels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, cafeterias and coffee shops. Individuals may have some responsibility for others and provide technical advice and support to a team.

Entry requirements:

Students should have completed year 11, 12, or equivalent, by providing school reports and/or academic records, or completed a qualification from the Australian Qualification Framework at Certificate IV level or higher in a course that was conducted in Australia, or must have a CoE ina a course that leads to a qualification from the Australian Qualification Framework at Certificate IV level or higher, and that they will complete before their main course. Students must be 18 years of age before commencement of AIFE program. Students should satisfy English language requirements: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – should have an overall minimum band score of 5.5 (no individual band less than 5); Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - paper based test 525 minimum, computer based test - 196 minimum, internet based test - 70 minimum; English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) – they should complete English for Academic Purpose (EAP) program in Australia, completion of General English at Upper Intermediate Level program in Australia. Students must also have basic computer skills in MS Office Skills.
