Venue Description:
The Academy of Design is located in Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast. It will provide students and clients with valid and current training to the highest standards in their chosen field. They will endeavor to inspire and awaken 'the creative' in every student and to drive this creative spirit into practical skills that will lead them to successful and satisfying careers. The Fashion Industry is a highly creative and demanding field. It takes dedication, passion and a true sense of creative confidence to enter into this field and discover where students want to be within this diverse industry. It is an industry like no other - with constant creative change - whether in design, fabrics, global trends, presentation, or niche markets - and they can choose where they concentrate their skill building to encompass the direction they will take. The college has taken into careful consideration the 'real needs' of the industry and the shortfalls of training institutions to address the 'gap' that exists between the two. Addressing this 'gap' has been the vital tool in the designing and building of the Fashion Design program - and the student will benefit the greatest from this research. The industry plays a vital role in this program and offers students work experience, industry lectures, competitions, feedback, business opportunities and above all the close affiliation with an on-site business operating right in front of the students. It doesn't get any closer than this, where real life industry can be experienced. The Gold Coast is the sixth largest city in the country. It is also the fastest growing region in Australia. This means there is an increasing need for industry and employment. The Gold Coast is also host to many international companies in the fashion field and is opening doors around the country and the world as an area that can provide high quality design and product.
