Charles Sturt University (CSU) is a really great university. Although its reputation is not as high as other well known ones, the lecturers and courses are just as qualified as the others! The most important thing to remember is that reputation is not everything - you may go to a more well-known place but have a bad time. Here at CSU, everyone is generally happy and NOT competitive! We help each other out and want everyone around us to do well, not just ourselves.
I completed foundation studies at University of New South Wales (UNSW), but did not get high enough marks to be offered a place in Psychology there. I ended up applying for CSU and being accepted and think it was the best thing that has ever happened to me! UNSW requires high marks for everything, and only care about that. But at CSU, they were so nice when I had questions (and didn't make me jump all over the place asking about different stuff).
There are a lot of scholarships that are offered, and I know many people who have them. You can find them on websites at the university or if you went and asked the student office.
My course is very very interesting. Psychology can be applied everywhere, and I think it is a fascinating topic. The best bit is being able to do our own research, rather than forever reading about other peoples' stuff. I study about 15 hours a week over the five days (for four subjects) so its not too hard. The lecturers and tutors are very caring and nice, they are always happy to help us!
The facilities are great at CSU. The location is a little bit boring, in the middle of nowhere, and I don't think its very common for international students to come here, but I have lived in the city before, and prefer this laid back environment. I think it will be very difficult for me to move back to KL after I finish because its so busy there all the time, and I have learnt to love this lifestyle!
I'm not too sure about the job prospects, as we are required to complete postgraduate studies to be a 'psychologist' in NSW. And then the qualification may not be directly transferable back to KL requirements! I am still deciding whether to stay on, and it will depend on whether I will be qualified back at home. If I were to stay in Australia, I think the job prosepcts are very very good. Easy to find jobs, and good pay.
Located in Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales and Victoria.
